Whether it’s a dog, puppy, cat or kitten, adopting at ARF is an easy and rewarding experience. You’ll find a range of personalities, ages and breeds. Please complete a Dog Adoption inquiry or Cat Adoption Inquiry and our friendly, knowledgeable adoption coordinators will contact you.

Our shelter is open 7 days a week, from 11 am – 4 pm. For directions, please click here. If you plan on visiting the shelter, no appointment is necessary but if you are looking to find the perfect companion for a dog already in your home, you must bring your dog with you so that we may do a “meet and greet” with the new prospective playmate.

Adopting an animal should never be an impulse decision. It’s a life-long commitment, sometimes lasting 10-15 years for dogs and up to 20 years for cats. There is a lot more that goes into being a responsible pet owner besides adequate food, water and shelter. You must think with your head AND your heart!

Answering the simple questions below will help you decide if adopting an animal is appropriate for you at this time.

At ARF we work very hard to provide outstanding care for our resident cats and dogs and want the best for them and their adopters.

  • Why do you and/or your family want to get a pet?
  • Who in your family is going to take care of the pet?
  • If you are considering a puppy, do you have the time needed for training?
  • Are you prepared for the costs associated with pet ownership?
  • If you rent, does your building allow animals? Are there any restrictions?
  • Does anyone in the family have allergies?
  • Have you and your family been educated about pet care?
  • Will your pet fit in with you and your family’s lifestyle?
  • Is your living situation going to change in the near future?

Animals are admitted to ARF by appointment only. We are a private, not-for-profit organization and receive no government funding. Because of this, we require a surrender fee. This fee will help us cover the costs of caring for your pet until a new home can be found. ARF prides itself on providing the best possible care for your animal including high quality food, veterinary care, a warm place to sleep and plenty of exercise and training. Any donation in addition to the surrender fee is most gratefully appreciated.

If you purchased a puppy online or at a pet shop, it likely came from a puppy mill. Puppy mills are massive breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers. The documented problems of puppy mills include over-breeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, overcrowded cages, lack of food and the killing of unwanted animals. Many people do not realize that by purchasing a puppy online or at a pet shop, they are helping to keep puppy mills in business. ARF urges the public to go to a shelter or to a reputable breeder when looking for a puppy or any other pet.

Pet insurance is a consideration everyone should make. Please be sure to research your options and choose the best plan for you and your pet. ARF recommends Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. Healthy Paws is so passionate about helping homeless pets receiving the medical care they need they provide numerous Homeless Pet Medical Grants funded through their Every Quote Gives Hope™ program to supply pet adoption organizations with funds specifically for life-saving vaccines, spay/neuter programs, and advanced medical treatment.
